Micronutrients: small yet mighty

Micronutrients

Micronutrients unlike macronutrients (carbs, protein, fat) are needed in small amounts in order for our bodies to properly function. Just because we need less of them doesn’t make them any less important. Like macronutrients micronutrients play crucial  roles in keeping our body feeling top notch! 

What are micronutrients?

– vitamins

– minerals

Why do we need them?

– to perform metabolic functions (aka make energy, brain + body function = everything you do!)

-bone, teeth, nail health

– oxygen carrying capacity

When we don’t get enough (or have too many) micronutrients our body will let us know through negative symptoms. For example if you aren’t getting enough iron in your diet you will experience fatigue, irritability, poor concentration, headaches, etc. 

How do we get enough everyday?

1. The best way is to consume a wide variety of fruits, veggies + lean +/or grass-fed protein. However, this can be hard to accomplish + isn’t realistic for everybody. When that’s the case we turn to supplements to help close the gap.

2. Supplements are a great way to get in the micronutrients missing from your diet. There are a few supplements I take daily to ensure I’m getting all of the vitamins+minerals I need.
